The Morikami Story

Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens celebrate a more than century-old connection between Japan and South Florida. In the early 1900s, a group of young Japanese farmers formed an agricultural colony named Yamato, in what is currently identified as northern Boca Raton. Due to unsustainable farming endeavors, most of the colony returned to Japan. In the mid-1970s, one of the remaining settlers, George Sukeji Morikami, donated his land to Palm Beach County with the wish that it would preserve the memory of the Yamato Colony.
